Mascot of the street hockey World Championship U 18 and U 16 is the Knocker
Like every other World Championship, also the U18 and U 16 WC in Most has its own Mascot. It’s represented by a character of the Knocker. Mascot was made by pupils of F. L. Gassmanns Basic School of art.
Championship organizers wanted from the art school the mascot, as a character, that will represent town history, but with connection on coal minig, To the process of creation were aslo connected the art school pupils, and from all the proposals was chosen the character of the Knocker, that is by the organizers the best connection between both conditions, the region with its history. The Art school will also cooperate and help with attendant programme for the championship. Character’s costume was made by the students of specialized high school in Meziboří.
The mascot will guide visitors through all the events during the U 16 and U 18 championship in Most. It’s public premiere was during regional round of street hockey tournament, which was dedicated to drug prevention and was played in Unconventional sports area. Not only fot the mascot, but tournament was also the first time, when public should see teh cup for world champions, made by Sade compasny, parner of the championship.
The mascot should be seen not only during the U 16 and U 18 World Championship, but also during the championship of youngest street hockey players, that is part of the World Championship in Most. But every Competititon will have it’s own mascot, smaller for younger category, bigger fot the other.
And who or What is the Knocker?
In Encyclopedia you can find, that knockers are mythical beings, who live mostly in mines and minimg adits. In Myths and fairy tales are known as special littel creatures, imps or dwarfs, that sometimes help, sometimes deliberately harm the miners under the ground. Myths with beings like this can be found in different versions and regions all around the world. But usually is said, that the word knocker (czech - permonik), comes from german Bergmann. – Mountain man.
