CITY OF MOST

 

The historicial king town of Most had vanished from the place it was on. For the centuries it was growing up on the place rich of brown coal. It became fatal for the town in the second half of the twentieth century. Except the cathedral which was moved to is current place nothing of the original building has remained. Only in the photographs we can see the atmosphere of the old squares, streets, theatre, small churches and other nice places of the vanished town.

 

Modern Town

We can say that the modern town has been built on the green meadow. All the historical architectural structures have been destroyed when the Down disappeared from its original place. The new town, so as everything new, is developing and looking for the new image. The contemporary town of Most, dynamic and modern, is the administrative, industrial, commercial and cultural centre of the region and it suggests enough space for interesting architectural projects …

Each town has its own uniqe image. As for the town of Most its image created by modern architecture containing some historical elements and taken from the architecture of the original town. The past is reminded to visitors of the town mainly by the building of the removed St. Mary´s Assumption Cathedral. The modern dominating feature of the town is the Town Theatre. Accommodation and Tourism

Most and surrounding can offer tourist a lot of interesting places and social activities. One of them is the castle Hnevin situated on the top of the similar named hil, thatl can be seen from far away. From the hill the tourists can not only enjoy teh nice view of the town and surounding, but they can also get accommodation nad meal there. On the top of two other hills Sirak and Ressl you can also get high level hotel services. The biggest accomodation capacity in the city of Most offers Hotel Cascade.  

 

Education and Health

No town can live without functional education and health systém. In the city with about seventy thousand people the pupils and students attend 14 primary and 10 secondary schools, two university departments and two vocational schools. Gifted children can attend two art schools. Health care is provided by qualified specialists of the modern hospital and other institutions of the resort.

 

Recreation ans Sport

Steps of racing horses at one end of the town and noise of the engines of the racing cars at the other – this is another typical feature of Most. Footbal and hockey or ball street hockey and handball fans can oenjoy the matches too. But you can choose from the wide range of the other sports: tennis, golf, athletics, driving water scooter, squash or skating. Or you can just relax somerwhere by water or in the mountains …

 

Transport

If the town intents to be developed, there is necessity of perfact transport network. Roads and international rail road systém connect Most to the rest of the country. Most airfield is going to increase its capacity.

Most is the town of wide streets with many roundabouts. It provides good level of public transport comprising of buses and trams.

 

Industry

For a long time the life of the town and of the whole region was effected mainly by heavy industry – coal mining and chemical industry. With coming economical changes it became necessary to change the industrial orientation from heavy to light industry and services. New investments that have been already realised can confirm that. Coal mining industry is not only surface mines and destroyed nature, but also the programme for renewing the area.

In these days you can see growing grapes and fruit near the town, people swimming in new water pools, fishermen hoping to catch fish …

 

Future

Because the city has very few structures to the history, it proceeds more to the future. The construction of housing estates in the past gave people homes, but did not give them space for common life. It is not only the question of completing the town centre, but also making a lot of improvements in the housing estates and their souroundings. People will have to feel there as in their home.

 

At the beginning of the new century the city of Most became more important as statutory town. And as Czech Republic became the member of the European Community its importance increased because of its location near German border.
